Abstract

Many literary works have taken themes from tourism phenomena, and many tourist attractions are indebted to literary works for their popularity. However, studies of the contribution of literature in the promotion of tourism destinations, and analyses of the contributions of tourism in inspiring the creation of literary works are not yet commonplace. This general lack of literature-based tourism studies or tourism-focused literary studies has resulted because such an integrated model has not yet been devised. This paper offers an interdisciplinary approach that combines literary studies and tourism studies into what is termed literary tourism. Several areas of literary analysis are presented in this paper as an initial proposal to further develop a literary tourism approach.
