Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the mistakes made by students in converting affirmative sentences into negative and interrogative sentence in the forms ofsimple present tense. The subject of this research is the second grade of SMP Nusa Dua. This research was conducted in class X.1, the writer analyzed 35 students. In this study, the writer used the method of observation, collecting tests, analyzing, and interpreting data. In collecting the data the author asks students to answer questions that focus on changing affirmative sentences into negative and interrogative forms in simple present tense. This test contains 20 questions. The results showed that as many as 65% of students made mistakes in usingdon't or don't in negative or interrogative sentences. They are confused how to use don't or don't. Therefore the writer suggest to teachers to deepen the explanation of how and when to use it.
